Just picked up a free RCA Dimensia MSA-200 integrated Amplifier. It's from 1985 it's 18:51 also dead,100 wpc. Should I fix it?

Thanks Paul. I am going to try this. The concerns that I have are:. Does the Glycol build up in the rinse solution? Or does the alcohol break it down completely? Also, the Tergikleen: At which point does the rinsing solution become saturated with Tergikleen? How many rinses can you do before the solution should be changed because of saturation of Glycol/Tergikleen. Also, how many cycles do you set the Degritter to do (1-4), before going into Drying mode? Thank you.

Had an RP 3 for years and had it serviced and replacement motored, but could never get it to 'sing', despite changes in phono amps and cartridges. Kept to the ' Rega ' adice and never changed out the felt mat, then I tried cork, for me every bit as bad and virtually gave up. Then I recently saw your videos and a few others re microphonics and isolation. However, I also came across Acrylic mats as been recommended. As I didn't fancy paying the price equvelpent of a new RP 3 for a mat and puck replacement experiment, great as they maybe, I considered the Hex Yellow Bird, but thought I'd try an Acrylic first, which arrived last week. I was frankly instantly stunned as I'm now getting something along the lines of my expectations . BIG ASK, could you fit Acrylic into your experimental range for an opinion of it's general performance in the rainbow of possibilities between Felt and Origin Strata, as I have finally started to hear differences room sonics and action of acoustic feedback to the cartridge actually makes. Ps also found it makes setting anti skate a breeze. I have now watched many of your videos since coming across your work, so a big thank you.

Just one nitpick - the vinyl shown as playing is a June Christy album whereas the review was done using a Frank Sinatra album 🙂 maybe use just the album cover next time if the actual footage of the vinyl playing is not available? But otherwise greatly enjoy your videos 👍

I got this version of the Disco-Antistat 8 years ago now and have cleaned 100s of records, I have always been impressed with the results. I too make my own cleaning solution. I use a battery powered drill to turn my clamp, it works very well. I intend to get the second generation of it as it has the handle, you can replace the brushes and has gaskets for the labels.

Great review! I'm a big fan of powered speakers. I still have my AR Powered Partners and Rock Partners from the 80s in play. I was using some Klipsch Fives in this music/av capacity and though impressive , after a year I sold them for some Sonos Fives. Don't laugh! But the lack of hdmi for the Sonos has been killing me. Workarounds stink for source changes! I'd consider the Triangles, but that bass boost thing is really unfortunate. Blah blah blah...😅

Good video, thank you. But you didn't mention the RIAA correction which is an essential characteristic for a phono amp.

Makes me think it could be a great setup for an home office kind of scenario. I think for a main system, yes it is an option but i would wonder about upgradability. Though different price range, i am still really happy i went with the audiolab 6000a around the time you did the review on it. Its pre amp setting is one of the things that made it interesting and it came in handy. This year i finally changed out my 37 year old Driade 81 mk2 and with some music and at some volumes the 6000A ran out of breath on the new speakers. So i added a 8300xp to the 6000a and this was a really nice bang for buck move. The pre out of the 6000a became more talented when put into pre mode which completely disconnects the powerstages of the 6000a. Anyway, the reason for telling this is because of me wondering of whether i would go for something more upgradable or not in a home office situation or main room situation. Ow and if this is maybe a subject you could shine your light on? Maybe not...I would watch though (edit: meaning....should one buy equipment with upgrade potential? Since our journeys are usually through an upgrade here or there but never buy everything at once?)

I have the 23 and love them. The 26 are so much more money ? I wish you would review the 24s they might be enough of an upgrade for me and so much less cash. I wonder how close the 24 are to the 26s? PS the Oldfield cut is great thanks for highlighting it.

As a professional sound engineer for 35 years and a student in audio studies at a post graduate level for an additional 15 years-- I have never been able to hear all of these amazing differences that audiophiles hear.

Very interesting, Paul! I have great respect for Arthur and his achievements and have followed his progress with interest over several decades. It is no surprise to me, then, that this phono preamp performs exceptionally well and is very nicely constructed. I agree with @amok281 that your description corresponds more to 9/10. When The Wombles were featured on TOTP, it was Mike and Chris and others in the costumes. I remember in the not so distance past, Mike Batt was head of the British Phonographic Industry.

I just bought and tried out a DX180. The cases seem very similar, so I'll mention here that I find the new design language very much a step in wrong direction. It's very striking to look at, with all the angles and 3D offsets. But, compared to the previous generations (I have a DX240 and used to have a DX170), I find the new DAPs very uncomfortable to hold in my hand. Further, even the visually interesting parts are pretty much hidden if you use a case - which I would think many if not most users will want to do for a device you're constantly carrying around and handling. Much as I REALLY wanted to love the new device, I just find it annoying.

Can you help - month into my vinyl journey P2 carbon cartridge with the standard stylus great happy with it except I get the dreaded Inner grove distortion on new albums it’s not that bad and hardly noticeable some Older ones it is it’s aligned and tracked to 2 the bias is at 2 would a better cartridge and stylus combo eliminate that obviously not all recordings but my last tracks suck and it’s a shame as all others sound great

As it's an MM phono does that knob adjust capacitance? I'm not sure "potentiometer" is the correct description, unlike in the case of the icon PS3 where it really is just a volume control.

I wonder how the Akutrac would work with an MC cartridge & a step up? Any thoughts?

The information is useful and informative, the content is tremendously well presented, and the script is uniquely literate and exceptionally professional - from a journalistic standpoint. If I may share here a guess. Your videos have the value, wit, and method, but in your eagerness to put your own personality into the presentation (after all it is YOUR channel) you limit the appeal. You write an informative, amusing, and entertaining script but it's delivered with a voice, accent, and, how to describe this... personality that's maybe limited in its appeal. "The Audiophile Man" - sort of evokes a nostalgic time of clinking glasses of brown liquor, swanky lounges and living rooms with curvaceous women present but not in charge, and rooms with really good stereos. Think about having a sultry voiced woman deliver your script. Watch the ratings skyrocket.

I would think for all that money they could at least try to align those inputs, and I can understand why he didn't want it opened up. I am perfectly happy with my Pro-Ject DS3 B which can handle mm and mc, has RCA and XLR, sounds great and is only $799.

Per your description, looks like Authur K. has created a spectral tilt control via continuously variable MM cartridge loading prior to RIAA equalization. A simple concept that's very difficult to implement correctly ~ Once again Khoubesserian's "Outside the Box" thinking has made itself inside one. Quite clever indeed.
